Elephant Care School
When ICC opens its Elephant Care School, it will play a major leadership role in the training of managers and keepers who provide care for these magnificent animals.
- The Zoo will create a two-year academic elephant husbandry program for the next generation of elephant managers. Graduating individuals will be leaders in animal care. The program will be the first of its kind in the US.
- The curriculum for the School will include one year of study on animal husbandry, behavior, and elephant training basics. The second year curriculum will focus on hands-on elephant management.
- The program will expand to include training in the care of other critically endangered wildlife species.
